Blue Hare's Fur Gaiwan, 125 ml
Gaiwans are considered a must have item for any tea enthusiast for their versatility and no fuss practicality when one wishes to make a quick infusion or experiment the rewards of loose leaf infusions. For many, it will even become their tea making instrument of choice. In Taiwan, it is not considered a second rate infusion instrument. It comes as no surprise to see it used in ceremonial settings as well. This stunning piece would certainly beautify any equipage as it gets re-interpreted here by Bai Mu Quan’s workshop featuring a dazzling Tianmu 天目 (Tenmoku in Japan) blue hare’s glaze executed with vibrant cobalt blue accents further enhanced by a contrasting brown edges around the saucer, bowl and the lid’s handle. This item is moulded from porcelain for it good heat dispersion qualities and to ensure consistency and precision in shape. Nevertheless, this is far from being a mass-produced item as these gaiwans are moulded one by one and undergoes a complex and precise glazing technique that requires multiple firings that exemplifies the artistry of Bai Mu Quan’s master glazing skills. Like all the work featured in our Handcrafted section, each item is made one by one and is signed the artist. Handmade in Taiwan.
