We’re very happy to introduce this new teapot from Bai Mu Quan’s catalog. The shape is inspired by the the classic bā lè style which is inspired by the curvaceous lines of this very popular fruit in Taïwan. Some classic bā lè pots have a higher profile. We prefer this more squat modern interpretation which proposes great features like a very wide 50 mm opening for easy cleaning of the pot. We also like the large low belly of the pot with its very wide base of 65 mm which, for the pot swirlers that we are, are a joy to handle. The handle is just the right size and sits low where the centre gravity is. The pour is elegant and generous. Finally, what we really like is that this pot is made from clay and features thicker walls making it a perfect pot for baked, more oxidized and aged teas. Like many items from Bai Mu Quan, this pot is moulded to ensure consistency and precision in shape. Nevertheless, this is far from being a mass-produced item as these pots are moulded one by one and corrected individually by an apprentice before being handed over to Master Quan for firing and glazing featuring a dazzling Tianmu 天目 (Tenmoku in Japan) blue hare’s glaze executed with vibrant cobalt blue accents that match perfectly any item in our Blue Hare’s Fur collection. The pot is glazed inside and out to make it a neutral instrument. Like all the work featured in our handcrafted section, each item is made one by one and is signed by the artist. Handmade in Taiwan.
