Bronze Mist Dragon Tea Gargoyle
We know, Gargoyles are more western ornaments found on western medieval architecture but we found the name fitting based on the beastly facial features of these whimsical figurines. They are the work of Mr. Zhang, a young potter from Taichung who studied under Bai Zong-Ping and spent many years at Lin's Ceramics beforehand. He now runs his own studio from his home. Known out west as tea pets, these dragon-faced tea table companions serve as more than just decorations among your tea equipage. M. Zhang designed a function around their facial features. When laid on their neck, their mouth openings can serve and resting places for stick-like objects like tea rakes, picks or even incense sticks. If you prefer a tiger-faced design, they are available here. As with all of his work, the shape and execution are precise, flawless and with great attention to detail. Finally, the finish is the result of days of slow wood firing in a traditional snake kiln. The aesthetic characteristics are purely accidental and the result of elements fusing during the firing process. What you see in the pictures is what you will get as each one is unique. Handmade in Taiwan.
