Chocolate Melt Gaiwan, 125 ml
Gaiwans are considered a must have item for any tea enthusiast for their versatility and no fuss practicality when one wishes to make a quick infusion or experiment the rewards of loose leaf infusions. For many, it will even become their tea making instrument of choice. In Taiwan, it is not considered a second rate infusion instrument. It comes as no surprise to see it used in ceremonial settings as well. This gaiwan is part of a new series of custom tea wares from Bai Mu Quan Studios that finally reveal the pivotal contribution of Mrs. Zhan at the helm of all the studio's tea related work. Mrs. Zhan is the mother of both Bai brothers that we feature extensively in our Artisan Potter Galleries. This item proposes a practical 125 ml size that is moulded from porcelain for its good heat dispersion qualities and to ensure consistency and precision in shape. The pleasant overall lines of this piece are further enhanced by a hand-brushed Chocolate Melt glaze where shades of olive green are highlighted with caramel and dark brown overlayed strokes. All inside surfaces are glazed with a high gloss white glaze. This is far from being a mass-produced item as these gaiwans are moulded one by one before being meticulously hand-corrected and glazed the family's workshop under the supervision Mrs. Zhan. We requested that she sign these new wares in recognition of her instrumental role not only as a business owner but also as an artist in her own right. Proudly hand-crafted in Taiwan.
