Chocolate Melt New Tea Pitcher, 180 ml
We're very excited to introduce this new series of custom tea wares from Bai Mu Quan Studios and finally reveal the pivotal contribution of Mrs. Zhan at the helm of all the studio's tea related work. Mrs. Zhan is the mother of both Bai brothers that we feature extensively in our Artisan Potter Galleries. It comes as no surprise that this new series is greatly inspired by their work as they were instrumental in the design process and refinement of the line. The development of this new series happened in great part during the pandemic slow down where the extra time was spent re-thinking the studio's direction by further centering it around the distinctive particularities of the Taiwanese tea culture. We played our little part in contributing our wish list of features and supported the process with an early commitment to the project. The design objective was to propose a series of wares designed to help reveal the full character and charm of ball-rolled Taiwanese teas. This brand new tea pitcher design is meant to be the perfect match to the Chocolate Melt Flat Lid Pear-Shaped Teapots of the same new series. It is based on a Xiao Bai design with a perfect 180 ml size. Porcelain was chosen as the material of choice for its strength, precision, and neutrality. The wall thickness is thin and even all throughout the body and angular spout. The body's gently tapered shape sharply flares out at the brim to help grasp the pitcher without burning the fingers. The spout offers a nice precise pour with minimal drips. The pleasant overall aesthetics of the pitcher is further enhanced by a hand-brushed Chocolate Melt glaze where shades of olive green are highlighted with caramel and dark brown overlayed strokes. This pitcher is moulded to ensure consistency and precision in shape. Nevertheless, this is far from being a mass-produced item as these pitchers are moulded one by one and corrected individually by an apprentice before glazing and firing under the supervision Mrs. Zhan. We requested that she sign these new wares in recognition of her instrumental role not only as a business owner but also as an artist in her own right. Proudly hand-crafted in Taiwan.
