This stunning hand-made gaiwan is the epitome of a classic design re-interpreted by the artistry of Xiao Bai, the youngest sibling of the Bai Mu Quan family. This young potter, despite his relatively short tenure behind a potter's wheel, has quickly mastered his craft with works of great sensibility in style and form whilst never compromising on function. The precision in his craftsmanship is simply stunning considering the challenges of working with porcelain as his material of choice. His use of different textures, like the very fine lines that adorn the body of the cup and lid knob, are always done in a subtle way that is both appropriate to the shape of the piece and balanced with the tone of the finish. The lid's pointy handle is also fitting with the design and makes the handling of the lid very secure. The inner surface features a mirror white finish. The wall thickness is ultra thin and even all throughout the cup and lid with a very gentle taper towards the flared lip.
