An excellent gaiwan, perfect for 1 or 2 people. Well made and fitted for good function. The simple shape and more angular stem give it a modern look, which I preferred to others I found in the price range. I bought it with 2 “everyday tea cups” and 1 brewing fills them both to a good level.

I would like to really appreciate the folks at Taiwan Tea Crafts for the care and attention they put into packing the orders. The gaiwan feels well-made and looks elegant as compared to those that are “Non-taiwan” made & in the same pricing region. Thanks for making these accessible & available for international customers!

This is way better than my previous gaiwan which costs a bit more than double.
The lid fits perfectly and the pour is the very best. Haven’t spilled a single drop of tea with this one.
The only thing keeping it from perfect (in my opinion) is this: I’d prefer if the saucer was raised a little more and the knob on the lid to be less sharp.
Otherwise, it is amazing value and quality.

The lid doesn’t fit well, leaving some open space that cools the tea while brewing. But it’s still usable. Also, the photos make it look pure white or even a bit blue, but its real color is slightly yellow off-white (for anyone who cares about the color).
Taiwan Tea Crafts –
Hello D,
Thank you for your review. I am sorry our most popular and highly-rated gaiwan didn’t seem to impress you. That’s ok! As you can see, we print all genuine reviews written in good faith. If you don’t mind, for the benefit of all, I would like to address your points and hopefully offer a different perspective based on expectations and common practice here in Taiwan. Lid fit is very often misunderstood when it comes to gaiwans. Information that pertains to teapots where tight fitting lids are highly praised – still a highly debatable subject in our humble opinion – gets cut and pasted onto what should be expected of a gaiwan. The fit of gaiwan’s lid is quite random and determined by the user in great part. It doesn’t sit in a precisely determined opening like on a pot where diameter, roundness of the opening, and the surfacing of the lid’s lip all play an important role the precision of the fit. This can be measured, evaluated and discussed, and believe me, it is! Expecting the same tolerances of a gaiwan’s lid is debatable at best, unless there is an obvious defect. On the cooling of your brew, I would venture to say that this is much more the result of how the material of the gaiwan absorbs the heat of the water and what inherent insulating properties it has based on it’s density and thickness. Creating a good seal of the instrument when brewing is more often the expected quality of a gaiwan. The general practice here in Taiwan is to pour more water than what would fit normally under the lid. When covering the leaves with the lid, the user would present the lid at a gentle angle when it touches the water and gently wiggle it in place so that an overflowing ring of water appears on the outer circumference creating a good seal for the brewing process. On the colour of the gaiwan, I am sorry you missed the information in the specifications tab that indicates the colour as Ivory. Essentially, 99% of our cast porcelain wares are ivory coloured and clearly labelled as such.
