Handmade Ping Gai Lian Ceremonial Tea Urn with Darker Lid, 80 ml
Simplicity always has its merits, especially when considering tea objects that have a ceremonial function. The pure white porcelain Mei Ren Jian body of this urn with its prominant shoulders are toped by the contrasting angularity of the darker cap-style lid. A closer look will reveal an intricately textured surface that mimics distressed tarnished metals. This unique item is the work of Xiao Bai, the youngest sibling of the Bai Mu Quan family. This young potter, despite his relatively short tenure behind a potter's wheel, has quickly mastered his craft with works of great sensibility in style and form whilst never compromising on function. The precision in his craftsmanship is simply stunning considering the challenges of working with porcelain as his material of choice. The simple flowing lines of this classic item are beautifully rendered with meticulous precision. The wall thickness is thin and the lid sits perfectly flat. The 80 ml capacity will hold a little over 25 g of most rolled oolong teas. making it a perfect add-on item when gifting a precious Taiwanese tea. Finally, the striking finish is the result of making good use of the years of experience in creating masterful glazed finishes at the Bai Mu Quan family studio and pushing the threshold. A white glaze was added to the inside surfaces to make this a neutral tea conservation instrument. This unique item is signed by the artist and proudly hand-crafted in Taiwan.
