Laoyan Clay Teapot Plate, 170 mm
Laoyan clay, meaning old rock clay, is a coarser grit crushed stone material that produces nicely textured, more porous stoneware items. Very often, different coloured grit are mixed together to give it a distinctive rustic look, like it is the case with our Laoyan Clay range. This series is quite similar in appearance to our Miaoli Clay Series but the material and firing process is not engineered to allow them to be heated over a stove or burner. Where it excels is in making tea ware items with nicely textured detail like it is the case here. After molding, the plate is spun on a traditional potter's wheel to engrave a concentric circle pattern on the inside. The outer surface is hand-decorated with a stamped motif that is very similar to the ones that adorned many of the traditional utilitarian urns and jars of bygone days. The rustic look fo this plate will pair well with all of our Laoyan pots but also with any contrasting darker clayware pots. Included is a 10 cm wide natural non-woven jute coaster, that acts as a riser for the pot to rest on. The natural shades of both jute and clay will pair nicely with any teapot. Hand-crafted in Taiwan.
