Miaoli Clay Smaller Dobin Kettle/Teapot, 225 ml
Miaoli County in central Taiwan is renowned all throughout the island for its once thriving ceramic industry. The unique clay originating from the area was central to the development of this activity. All Taiwanese families are still familiar with the huge jars produced with this soil as they were the vessels every family would use to store liquids or produce fermented foods and condiments like soy sauce or wine. Huge vats made from Miaoli clay used by wineries was said to render a smooth and sweet character to the spirits made in them. In the spirit of these vessels, this Dobin Kettle is made from the same clay and is left unglazed. The material’s porosity and mineral content will soften your water when you use it as a kettle and makes it a perfect memory vessel to heighten your tea drinking experience if used as a teapot. It works particularly well with darker teas, either more oxidized, fermented or baked ones. When used as a pot, it is recommended that you dedicate it to a particular style of tea. The kettle is first molded for consistency in shape and then each element is hand assembled to the main body before firing. Finally, a brass handle is fitted. These instruments can be heated over a traditional brazier, gas stove or heating plates providing they are not left empty. We recommend pairing it with the Miaoli Clay Brazier for a harmonious match. Larger 325 ml and 1600 ml designs are also available as well as a darker coloured model of the same design. Hand-crafted in Taiwan
