Molten Sakura Turret Tea Cup
Similar to his Overglazed Wood Fired Chawan, Mast Zhuang likes to experiment with successive glaze coatings with multiple firings of the same piece. This cup is the result of such work where the Molten Sakura effect takes on another dimension in depth and movement. The glaze of this stunning Turret Cup is purposely thick and dripping on the outer perimeter of the cup as if it was smothered in melting spumoni ice cream. The inside remains even with a beautiful splattering of his trademark sakura motif over a neutral pale grey glaze. Despite its 5 mm thick wall, this cup is very pleasant to drink from. It has great insulating properties that will keep a tea warm when initially warmed-up with boiling water. The 65 mm inside diameter covers the nose well when the cup is brought to the lips to appreciate the aroma. fashioned around a traditional flat bottom Japanese Chawan, you can even make small matcha shooters in it when using an electric mini-frother. Do they make your tea taste better? Yuwen our resident Tea Master would certainly think so as she has adopted one of Master Zhuang's cups as one of her favorite ones back in 2014. If you come to visit, you will most likely see her enjoying her daily tea moments with one of them. Master Zhuang is a reputed award-winning potter from Sun Moon Lake, with whom we have developed a unique working relationship fueled by friendship. His work, like the man himself, is highly original. Like all the work featured in our Handcrafted section, each item is made one by one and is signed and dated by the artist. Handmade in Taiwan.
