Our Exploration Tea Sampler Tins are curated to allow tea enthusiasts to further investigate a specific Taiwanese tea terroir or type of tea through comparative tastings of different variations of it, in this case: Red Oolong Teas. A significant trend in Taiwan in the last few years was, and still is, the variety of deeper oxidized oolong teas to the point where the line becomes slightly blurred with black teas. We are definitely getting close to the colour, and fruity profile of Taiwan Blacks but a few distinctions remain that sets them apart. Red Oolong Teas are still processed according to the oolong process and retain their distinctive rolled ball shape as a finished product. Another aspect is that they are mostly made from cultivars associated with oolong teas. One thing is sure, their growing popularity is not a fluke. When well made, they are satisfying, easy to drink refreshing teas that can be enjoyed hot or chilled. Their appeal is not limited to Taiwan as their buoyant fruitiness definitely appeals to western tastes.
