This stunning hand-made gaiwan is the epitome of a classic design re-interpreted by the artistry of Xiao Bai, the youngest sibling of the Bai Mu Quan family. This young potter, despite his relatively short tenure behind a potter's wheel, has quickly mastered his craft with works of great sensibility in style and form whilst never compromising on function. The precision in his craftsmanship is simply stunning considering the challenges of working with porcelain as his material of choice. His use of different textures, like the finely fluted outer-surface of the bowl's body and around the stylized lid knob, is always done in a subtle way that is both appropriate to the shape of the piece and balanced with the tone of the finish. The inner surface features a mirror white finish. The wall thickness is ultra thin and even all throughout the cup and lid with a gentle taper towards the flared lip. The gaiwan's saucer features a very tight tolerance recess for the cup making the handling of the gaiwan very secure.
