Yushan Organic High Mountain Hong Yun T-21 Black Tea
This tea is very often our morning tea of choice in our tea workshop and we know it has become a regular selection for many of you as well. We're happy to propose to you our spring 2023 Lot 1238 which will not disappoint and divulge an interesting bit of information that we were not made aware by the Li family before now. They've been producing this tea as well as our Organic assamica T-8 and Red Jade T-18 for over 6 years now. Some may remember Lot 809 that was awarded a Bronze medal at the AVPA Teas of the World in Paris back in 2018 and the following Lot 980 that were both winter sprout (dong pain) teas. It happens that last year's Lot 1112 and this new Lot 1140 were both made from leaves coming from a high mountain garden at 1100 m in the foothills of Yushan, Taiwan's highest peak. The garden is rented out and used exclusively by the Li family. As with many of the tea gardens in Yushan, they are secluded and perfect for organic tea farming. This high-mountain character explains the expressive character of this black tea with sweet fruity aromatics and very supple tannins making it a very accessible and refreshing cup. A wonderful compote of stone fruits with a zest of citrussy tartiness and overtones of exotic fruits like our local Longan awaits you with a good foundation with the honey sweetness and thickness of large leaf black teas, yet no harshness. It's exotic and alluring, yet recognizable and comforting. Oh, and did we mention this tea was “clean” as in no pesticide residues? We’ve had it tested and it came out squeaky clean surpassing the stringent EU requirements. Gratification awaits the curious minds and palates!
