Quick tips on how to use these bamboo sticks
Using activated charcoal is well known and widely used method for purifying and softening water. Water filtration systems installed in houses or work places, or even in popular water jug type solutions you may have in your fridge. They all use activated charcoal but you can’t see it since it’s hidden in plastic contraptions that are often not reusable, nor recyclable. We propose a more sensible and earth-friendly solution that does without the plastic and concentrates on the main active ingredient in a convenient 10 cm stick form.
These naturally processed bamboo pieces sourced from local responsibly-managed bamboo groves can easily be dropped in a water jug or your kettle. Impurities and unpleasant trace elements found in tap water will bind to the activated charcoal piece after 2 to 3 hours. Each 10 cm stick (approx.) can handle volumes of about 1 litre for 2 months of continuous use. If you have a larger jug, use more sticks.
To start them off, we recommend brushing off the residual powder on the sticks and boiling them in water for at least 15 minutes to clean them off.
Transfer the cooled down sticks to your kettle or water jug and let the water sit for 2-3 hours before using it. Feel free to leave the charcoal in the container and refill it when you’re low on water. The charcoal will be effective for up to a month.
After that time, don’t throw them away! You can re-kindle their effectiveness by gently scrubbing them in hot water and let dry under direct sunlight for at least 2 to 3 hours or re-boiling them as explained above.
