For the fourth consecutive year, we continue exploring new uncharted territories of white tea making using the iconic Taiwanese-developed Hong Yu T-18 tea cultivar that was initially intended for black tea production. Just like in 2023, a reasonably normal winter with good cold spells produced a good quality lush first pluck with lots of sweetness in the resulting tea. This unconventional white tea produces a rich, complex, yet surprisingly mellow tea. Get some while it last as this is a limited quantity Lot that we produce only in the early spring time. Find out more about this tea in the tab below.

This Organic Pre-Qingming Red Jade T-18 Curled White Tea is produced once a year using the very first spring plucking of young tender shoots that are hand-picked, gently laid to wither and periodically hand-fluffed. After the leaves have lost the desired amount of water, a very gentle rolling is performed to push the oxidation and curl the leaves before desiccating them to lock-in their lush fragrance. The resulting dry leaf looks quite dark but produces a fairly clear liqueur. As soon as the water touches the leaves you will see how this cultivar is so fragrant! The fresh eucalyptus, cinnamon and camphor-like coolness is truly heady. The liqueur is sweet, thick and oh so smooth! This particular style of white tea was by far the most popular in the last 2 years as it is one of the most mellow Red Jade White Tea we make. No wonder it has developed such a following during the pandemic. It’s a truly pleasant and unique offering that we are proud to propose exclusively to our Taiwan Tea Crafts clientele.

I fell in love with Lot 802 so when this was put up for sale, I immediately stocked up. Planning to gift some to precious tea friends.

Interesting white tea that tastes like black without the astringency and with a candied sweetness. Difficult to place it, but definitely a top-rated tea in my list!

Brief steeps (few seconds) in 90 Celsius water.
Liquor is clear and light amber in color.
Taste is fruity with a clean long sweet aftertaste, leaving a slight cooling feel in the throat.
Mouthfeel is slightly sticky from the medium body infusion.
Wet leaves are a bronzed dark olive green in hues, giving off an aroma of lightly burned sugar with a touch of menthol.
This tea withstands many infusions. The intensity of the flavor starts to mellow down by the 6th/7th infusion, thus best to apply a longer steep time from here onwards.
