Celebrating Taiwanese Culture, Cuisine and Tea with Ang Lee

The 85th Oscar Awards shines on Taiwan as Li An (Ang Lee) deservedly receives the best Director Award for Life of Pi. Taiwan Tea Crafts joins in to celebrate a great director, a great man, and one of the best promoter of Taiwanese culture throughout his brilliant film career. Today, we will ride the wave of this year’s Oscars and share our love of cinema and Taiwan, all in one package, by re-exploring and inviting you to (re-) discover one of Li An’s earlier movies that beautifully showcases Taiwanese cuisine … and one of Taiwan’s tea institutions: the Wistaria Tea House of Taipei.

100cc of pure fun up to Shanlinxi, and back.

My intention was to head up to Lugu Township, the home of world-famous Dong Ding oolong tea. After-all it’s only a few 25 to 3o kilometres away and I could easily be content with it’s beautiful 600 to 1000 m tea gardens and blooming cherry trees and be back before sunset (which is around 18:00 here). So much so, that Lugu was not enough, I had to push further up over the coastal ridge for another 30 km to one of my favorite little paradises (yes, plural form here… as there are many terrestrial ones on this island): Shanlinxi.

A thick coat of snow brought a different light to the usual duller green scenery of dormant tea bushes in his organic tea garden in the mythical tea […]

Drum roll please! Here’s our Top 10 Teas of 2012.

In the world of Taiwanese tea, where each season brings us a new offering, combined with the wide spectrum of different terroirs, types and styles of tea it is easy to be submerged by all of this diversity. Shining stars of our selection may only have a brief moment in the spotlight due to the fast pace at which everything occurs here, so it is quite fitting that we give them a deserved moment of attention again. So, counting down, here are our ten shining cups of the year:

It’s a grey Sunday. What to do, what to do ?…

It’s a grey foggy Sunday over the tea fields surrounding us at Taiwan Tea Crafts. What to do, what to do?… Well baking of course!… of tea, that is! Mmmm, the buttery caramelized aroma of roasted oolongs. To taste what comes out of our ovens try our Organic Dong Ding Oolong, Lot 134. Divine!
